From July 20 to 21, the national finals ofthe “Flying Shark Cup” 5th China Graduate Future Flight Vehicle Innovation Competition were held in Xiamen University. A total of 125 teams from more than 40 universities in China entered the finals, including Beihang University, Zhejiang University, National University of Defense Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.And 12 teams from NPU participated in the competition with the outcomes of 3 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 7 third prizes. The heads of the Graduate School, School of Aeronautics and School of Astronauticsattended the activities during the finals.
The China Graduate Future Aircraft Innovation Competition is one of the theme events of the “China Postgraduate Innovation & Practice Competitions”. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Education Degree and Graduate Education Development Center and the China Association for Science and Technology Youth Science and Technology Center. The competition was hosted by Xiamen University. With the theme of “Open Innovation and Pursuing a Dream for the Future”, 508 teams from 125 postgraduate training units signed up and submitted 451 works, with a total participation of 2,119 people, the highest in the record.
For the first time, this year's Grand Prix opened a corporate track outside the regular track. Through fierce competition, 12 first prizes, 23 second prizes, 67 third prizes were awarded in the regular track, and 3 firstprizes, 7 second prizes and 13 third prizeswere awarded in the corporate track. Among them, three students from NPU won the first prize: “Hyperion Future Urban Aircraft” by Bai Zhiliang, “Xiaosun Spread-Folded Bionic Flapping Wing Aircraft’’ by Chen Ang and “Overall Design Scheme of a Combine Wing Stratospheric Airship” by Qiao Liang. At the same time, our school won the outstanding organization award for the outstanding organization.
In response to the "China Postgraduate Innovation & Practice Competitions", the Graduate School takes advantage of the schoolcharacteristics, focusing on the preparation for the activities in the field of future aircraft, electronic design, robots and artificial intelligence. In April this year, sponsored by the Graduate School, School of Astronautics hosted the “5th China Graduate Future Aircraft Innovation Competition” campus tryout. School of Aeronautics and School of Astronauticsactively organized students to prepare for the school selection competition. With great efforts, nearly 50 works were selected to participate in the competition.
In order to expand the coverage and benefits of innovative education among graduate students and create a good atmosphere for high-level innovative education,a series of measures have been made by the Graduate School, such as two-campus competition lectures,campus tryout and the cultivation projects forinnovative competition teams.
