On the morning of August 25th, the opening ceremony for the 2019 engineering doctoral candidates was held in Nanshan Yuan Hotel of the Chang’ an campus. Professor Zhang Weihong, the vice president of our university and a few leaders and teachers from different schools attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Yin Xiaowei, executive vice-dean of the Graduate School.

Professor Zhang Weihong firstly extended a warm welcome tothe 176 engineering doctoral students on behalf of the University and gave a brief introduction about the engineering education of NPU.In the speech, he encouraged them to cherish the school time,learn to handle the relationship between family, work and study, and strive to grow into leading specialists in the field of engineering.

Li Ximing, chairman of the trade union of the First Aircraft InstituteAVIC, made a speech on behalf of the joint training institute.He pointed out that high-level engineering specialists are crucial to the development of enterprises, and they will provide as much as possible for the cultivation of engineering doctoral students.

Professor Yan Jie from the School of Astronautics made a speech on behalf of the supervisor.He believed that the cultivation of engineering doctors needs to take both the advantages of scientific research institutes and universities.And supervisors are supposed to take the student’s individuality into account and combine scientific research programs with the cultivation of students’ aptitude particularly the ability to put forward research questions from carrying engineering tasks.

Geng Yansheng made a speech on behalf of the engineering doctoral candidates.

At the end of the ceremony, Professor Ning Xin, vice-dean of Graduate School, introduced the cultivation of engineering doctors in terms of the cultivation objectives, curriculum design, training procedures and degree requirements. He hoped that the students will be strict with themselves and the Graduate School will exert great efforts to help them complete their studies.

After the ceremony, Chen Jianyou, deputy secretary of the Communist Party Committee of NPU, delivered a speech about the history of NPU. And Professor Sun Yu, Director of the Art Education Center, delivered a speech entitled "Seeking Sources,Pursuing Distances and Singing to the Sky –“Those behind the 80 Years”, which shows the great personality of the NPU People who devote themselves to our national defense.

In the end,the engineering doctoral candidates were organized to listen to the school song and visit the school history museum which can help them get familiar with the school culture as soon as possible andarouse their empathy and sense of belonging.

In this year, our university has recruited 176 engineering doctoral candidates, an increase of 40 students than that of 2018.
