Thesis defense is an examination of the comprehensive ability of graduate students and also a necessary stage for degree application. The specific doctoral thesis defense process is shown in the following figure.

Doctoral thesis defense process

1. Degree applicants shall log in Student Space of Graduate School website and enter the degree application information

2. Preparatory meeting (Presided over by the chairman of the defense)

2.1 Defense secretary introduces the basic information of degree applicants and the Thesis Defense Committee

2.2 Defense secretary introduces the review of the thesis

2.3 Defense secretary introduces the defense procedure

2.4 Members of Thesis Defense Committee discuss whether there are conditions for the defense and their opinions on the defense procedure

3. Thesis defense (Presided over by the chairman of the defense)

3.1 Defense secretary announce the membership list of Thesis Defense Committee

3.2 Degree applicant's report (40-50 minutes)

3.3 Members of Thesis Defense Committee ask questions and the applicant answers (40-50 minutes)

4. Internal meeting of the Thesis Defense Committee (the thesis defense is adjourned)

(Presided over by the chairman)

4.1 Review the defense of the thesis

4.2 Vote by secret ballot

4.3 Discuss and pass the resolution of the Thesis Defense Committee

5. The meeting resumes and the chairman announces the result of the vote.

6. Defense Review result: pass / fail

7. The thesis defense meeting ends

8. The defense secretary submits the materials to the Sub-committee on degree evaluation
